Inspired by Emeka Ogboh’s a-ma-zing collection of afrobeat records, curator Evelyn invited him to DJ at this opening party. She then called on a familiar face (and Beursschouwburg-associated artist!) M I M I to curate a fitting lineup. The result? A selection of underground tastemakers from far away, close by, and all over the globe. Listening with your whole body sometimes means slowing down, sitting still, and meditating — like in Emeka’s exhibition — and sometimes it means letting loose with every last fibre on the dancefloor.

Chinnamasta

Named after the goddess of death, rebirth, and contradictions, Chinnamasta is an Amsterdam-based Caribbean dj and sonic researcher on a quest. By showcasing the raw, unfiltered, uncut and unsterilised beauty of the global Afro Diasporic underground, she charts the cross-continental pollination of sonic landscapes and cultures — and then turns post-colonial academics into dancefloor pedagogy for you to shake that ass to. Her sets are layered, eclectic, energetic and flavourful, linking histories, presents and futures through rhythms, archives, samples, vocals and plenty of bass.

LIL RISK

Berlin-based DJ whose pulsating performances exploded from LA's underground to international circuits. She shatters conventions, blending techno, experimental sounds, and worldwide club into boundary-breaking adventures. This pandemic-era breakthrough artist earned Boiler Room debuts and Serenity Link residencies after hosting warehouse fundraisers for Planned Parenthood. Expect barrage-like blends that sharpen ears while moving bodies. Her dynamic sets create intimate moments within chaos, transforming strangers into a temporary family through shared sound. Community-building disguised as pure hedonistic fun.

Emeka Ogboh

In addition to being the artist behind this autumn’s ground floor exhibition, Emeka is also a DJ with a sublime collection that spans afrobeat, techno, and plenty in between. While the exhibition invites quiet contemplation, tonight’s DJ set calls for high-energy dancing. Yet, a common thread runs through both: cultural hybridity — or how Lagos and Berlin can suddenly feel closely connected on the dancefloor. Emeka also creates music himself, transforming field recordings from his two home cities into dubby ambient compositions. To release his second album 6°30′33.372″N 3°22′0.66″E, he founded the label Danfotronics in 2022.

Erykah

Hailing from Ghent, Erykah aims to build safer cultural spaces both as a DJ and as a member of Leda collective. Her surprising and irresistibly percussion-heavy mixes at ABRUPT and Listen festival testify to her broad knowledge of electronic music and tons of guts. Her passage at Horst 2025 confirmed her as an unapologetically powerful local hero and rising star who knows how to set the dancefloor ablaze up until the very last afterparty closing track. Tonight she opens the rooftop so you better be ready for sweaty and joyful dancing from the very start.

MIMI

Maria Muehombo, known as M I M I/ mimi green is a multi-undisciplined artist and researcher based in Brussels. Born in Lusaka, Zambia, she moved to Belgium at a very young age. As a DJ she has gained recognition locally and internationally, having played at Horst, Nyege Nyege and Dekmantel Selectors while also holding down residencies at Oroko Radio (Ghana) and Kiosk Radio. Her artistic work is rooted in an ongoing exploration of the micro world, where zooming in becomes a way to better understand. Simultaneously scientific and spiritual, this focus on the details helps to reveal larger truths about the relationship between the self and the world.

Beursschouwburg is very happy and proud that M I M I is one of its associated artists for 2024-2026, and that she co-curated tonight's lineup in response to Evelyn's invitation of Emeka. Better together, always.

Evelyn Simons

From Horst Arts & Music (2018 - 2013) to RendezVous - Brussels Art Week (2024 - ongoing), Evelyn is the embodiment of many fresh curatorial winds blowing through the cultural landscape of Brussels, Belgium and beyond. As a curator, writer and researcher, she focuses on crossovers between art, (electronic) music, nightlife, performance and fashion. She predominantly works closely with artists on (site-responsive) commissions, transdisciplinary projects and discursive programs. Tonight is the perfect double trouble example, as she invited Emeka both for this fall's contemplative expo and energetic opening party.
