Marina Herlop has transcended her training as a classical pianist to create her own personal, delightfully polyphonic music, in which sophisticated rhythmic cells and haunting melodies meet. Her album Pripyat is a real creative, meticulous and penetrating jewel, bringing together her most diverse influences, such as the techniques inspired by the Carnatic music of South India used in the incantatory miu. Fans of Nanook and Babasha will find themselves in her combination of melancholy piano and elegant vocal lines. The presence of electronic drums, electric bass lines and a host of sublime production effects add to the intense nature of this cathartic music.
