Elmer is rapper, producer and the alter-ego of actress and theatre-maker Merel Pauw. Elmer combines her love of hip-hop with provocative rawness, disarming honesty and the colourful world of comic books in a shameless act that brings a long-awaited breath of fresh air to the Dutch hip-hop scene.
She (or he, whatever you like) is inspired by Peaches, Mr Oizo and de Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, makes danceable tracks with electro-funk and italo disco. Elmer tackles themes such as commitment anxiety, self-hatred and the hypocrisy of leftists, always combined with humour, self-mockery and rancid lyrics.
