Pankaj Tiwari: The Harvest of Broken Promises

What happens when the romanticised promises of progress collide with the harsh realities of the land? In The Harvest of Broken Promises, Indian contemporary artist, writer, curator and theatre maker Pankaj Tiwari interweaves his own history with the stories of a dozen farmers from around the world. Blending video footage, interviews, visual art, and folk tales, Tiwari creates a gripping documentary-performance that captures the profound tension between global ambition, migration, and agriculture. It is a quiet, powerful look at who really pays the price for our modern world.

Sophia Rodriguez and Teresa Vittucci take the stage with silver glitter sprinkled across furious faces, channelling the political weight of exhaustion and disappointment into a cathartic theatrical release. It is a fierce, intense performance that refuses to smile or soften its edges, offering instead a powerful space to collectively process the anger of navigating a world that constantly lets you down.

Hanako Hayakawa: 遊戯Yugi no.3 (WT)

Looking slightly ahead to the winter program, Japanese dancemaker Hanako Hayakawa zeroes in on the dark side of kawaii. In 遊戯Yugi no.3, she fiercely scrutinises the political aesthetics of cuteness, specifically dissecting the cultural image of 'the girl'. By breaking down the layers of innocence, control, and objectification embedded in these behaviours, Hayakawa weaponises movement to expose what lies beneath the sweet surface. It is a sharp, conceptual dance performance that turns a seemingly harmless aesthetic into a site of rebellion.
