Between domestic drama and explosive performance
De Vader is the new production by artist duo Marieke&Sophia, inspired by the eponymous living room drama by August Strindberg (1887). Together with Anna Franziska Jäger and Rodrigo Batista, they rework this dated, sexist piece into a confrontational performance. What if Strindberg's worldview is less outdated than we think?
This physical performance is about victimhood, masculinity, and power. In a hybrid form between performance, song, and text, the creators attempt to get a grip on the patriarchal scripts that still persist today.
Marieke Schraepen and Sophia Bauer form an artistic duo who met during their drama studies at KASK. Together, they created high-profile productions such as Guilty of Love and Motherbaby, in which they explore societal themes such as sexual violence and motherhood.
