In Marseille, more and more gated communities are turning away from the rest of the city, with isolated residents keeping to their own kind. In face of this madness appears the equally mad Don Quixote, armed with a long stick and a colander on his head. Together with his faithful squire/meal delivery courier Sancho Panza, they traverse this stolen metropolis on a chivalrous mission to restore its imagination!
In this contemporary and eccentric fable, which mixes documentary and fiction, we follow theatre maker Manolo Bez as the ingenious nobleman on horseback, accompanied by his squire as the cynical voice of reason. Under the southern French sun, they travel through labyrinthine neighbourhoods where their disarming appearance manages to get a colourful array of young people, junkies, immigrants and other outcasts talking. Thus, Gaspard Hirschi offers a playful yet sharp look at urban segregation and gated communities — the “castles” that Don Quixote sets out to conquer...
Gaspard Hirschi was born in Paris in 1978.
