Riding the massive success of Easy Rider, Dennis Hopper took Hollywood’s money and ran deep into the Peruvian mountains to shoot The Last Movie. Now, this radical, mythologised, and long-lost masterpiece, scarcely seen for nearly 50 years, is back with a brand-new live score by composer Alex Zhang Hungtai (Dirty Beaches).

The movie follows a stuntman who stays behind after a film crew departs, only to become the sacrificial victim in a local ritual reenacting the production. Fueled by psychedelics and sheer audacity, the hallucinatory, anti-colonial film famously derailed Hopper's career and vanished for nearly fifty years. 

For Videodroom, multidisciplinary composer Alex Zhang Hungtai, whose practice revolves around improvisation and its connection to the subconscious, resurrects this lost cinematic trip, bringing his recent compositions primarily centre on saxophone and drums, while also venturing into electronic music.

Produced by David Lynch, Michael Almereyda’s 1994 cult classic Nadja draws inspiration from Dracula's Daughter (1936) and André Breton's surrealist novel Nadja (1928). The acclaimed cult film follows the enigmatic vampire Nadja (Elina Löwensohn) as she returns to New York City to avenge her father Dracula's death at the hands of Dr. Van Helsing, played by sixties screen icon Peter Fonda. It is a distinctly early-90s take on the vampire mythos. Shot on a hypnotic mix of luminous 35mm and lo-fi Fisher-Price Pixelvision cameras, the picture’s dreamy atmosphere is getting a radical update for Videodroom. Brooklyn-based experimentalist Mari Maurice (more eaze) takes the stage to reimagine the film's melancholy sound & brings a new musical interpretation to this haunting classic, creating a unique encounter between adventurous cinema and contemporary experimental music.

Marking the absolute breakthrough for the legendary Japanese martial artist Sonny Chiba, the film follows Terry Tsurugi, a cynical hitman who lives purely for sex, money, and violence. What began as a refused prison-break job quickly turned into a genuine cocktail of honour, revenge, and betrayal as Tsurugi became entangled in a bloody Yakuza gang war. Martial arts extravaganza guaranteed.
