The exhibition is titled after Sergei Kuryokhin and Sergei Sholokhov's absurd TV mockumentary Ленин - гриб [Lenin was a mushroom] from 1991, when the post-communist era had just begun. It will take a look at the 1990s - which we might define as the period between the end of the Cold War and the beginning of the "war on terror. The expo will look at films and videos that reflect the era, but also at how artist found new ways to make images, thanks to technological innovations. For with both video hardware and editing software becoming more widely accessible, the 1990s was an important period for the development and dissemination of film and video art.
