Using the 17th century story of the Loudun possessions as the starting point, Krapp wants to open up this historical case and utilise it as raw material for a new theatre performance. The Devil/Les Diables thus takes the form of a theatrical trial, with the audience as the people's jury. That audience jury faces a society in crisis of faith, when fear and doubt seep into every crack in the old monolithic truth.
