MoMu presents 'Exploding Fashion: From 2D to 3D to 3D animation' in collaboration with Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London). Based on a research project, this exhibition offers insights into the pattern-making of twentieth-century fashion.
'Exploding Fashion' punctures the mystique of the design process in two ways. First, it deconstructs the myth of the fashion designer as an exclusive creative genius by shedding light on the intriguing role of the pattern maker. Second, in reverse, it goes through the production process of five historical designs by groundbreaking fashion designers who were also innovative pattern makers. Those designs are part of international museum collections and may only be handled under strict conditions. The expo digitally brings the museum objects to life by visualising how they were created and how they behave on the body.
