Ghent jazz label Sdban Records and Democrazy are joining forces for a second edition of the Ghent label night!
As Schroothoop, multi-instrumentalists Rik Staelens, Margo Maex and Timo Vantyghem bring a hypnotic, shimmering and danceable trip straight from the Brussels melting pot. The three Brussels natives stunned in 2019 with their incantatory and acclaimed debut album 'Klein Gevaarlijk Afval' (Rebel Up, Stadskanker), a delicious mix of jazz, eastern music and afro-Cuban rhythms, and now come out with a full album on Sdban Ultra in April 2023.
We got to know Dishwasher_ during the finals of Sound Track (music competition of VI.BE and the Club Circuit). Even then we noticed how this trio from Ghent can both improvise and play tightly in a straightjacket. They describe their music as krautjazz because there is so much in it: electronics, Balkan, music from the Middle East, even dance, hip-hop and metal elements. With sax (Werend Van Den Bossche), bass (Louise van den Heuvel) and drums (Arno Grootaers), they make pure and honest grooves, once again proving the strength of this band and of the young Belgian jazz scene. We often came across them live in recent years (residency at N9, Theater Aan Zee, Handelsbeurs, ...). And now they are rightly showing off a debut album on Sdban Records.
